John Beswick trained as a cabinetmaker in the early 1990s at the Manchester School of Furniture, following a varied and colourful early career. He set up the workshop on Bramhall Lane in 2004
Duncan Cheslett trained as a woodwork teacher in the late 1970s but has made and sold furniture for a living ever since. After running a larger factory he downsized & joined John at The Cabinetmakers’ Workshop in 2008.
The workshop is located in Victorian premises off Bramhall Lane in Davenport village, Stockport. Formally the chapel of rest for the adjacent undertaker’s (now a coffee shop) the building retains many original features, notably a fabulous stained glass window along the front wall.
By sharing the costs of running a fully equipped workshop, and employing no admin or sales staff, we are both able to keep our prices down to affordable levels while producing furniture of the highest quality.
